The R-series robots need to operate in the field without being in contact with the plants, to guarantee that they do not affect the experiments. The track of research plots are normally narrower than for farming for food production. The robots are therefore equipped with smaller wheels so that they can navigate between rows. They are also considerably higher than the W-series (up to 180 cm high) to avoid contact with the plants as they grow taller.
The R-series are customized platforms built for research purposes. These robots are built to operate in test fields with narrow tracks and high plants. Typical applications of these robots are phenotyping and monitoring plant and weed growth.
Also in The Thorvald series
The W-series is the working horse of the Thorvald platforms.
The C-series is a more compact design, primarily for indoor use in tight spaces like greenhouses and tunnels.
