We are currently conducting pilot testing of a strawberry harvester. An autonomous strawberry harvester mounted on the Thorvald robot will be able to harvest predefined varieties of strawberries on table-tops. The Thorvald robot moves autonomously along the rows, and activates the harvester wherever there are ripe berries.
The Thorvald robot moves autonomously along the rows, and activates the harvester wherever there are ripe berries, which provides a solution to the following problems a) Strawberry harvesting heavily relies on human labor; b) strawberries are easily damaged and bruised; c) strawberries tend to ripen very unevenly, giving large variations in color and size; d) strawberries tend to grow in clusters, which makes it hard to identify and pick individual strawberries.
